My favourite email gripes
1) An email with a "click here" link that links to a graphic on a web page. If I am reading off-line, no link is visible. It does not take much to include some visible text, or even make the link obvious as I do in this newsletter.
2) An email with a huge HTML burden, or a logo-filled attachment, that just adds graphic filler. It slows email, costs me more, and communicates nothing. And, a newsletter that only offers a HTML option rather than plain-text.
3) Spam. Need I say more? I defend myself with SpamCop.com, and also use an ISP with SpamAssassin filtering - people like Edo.ie or Blacknightsolutions.com. Ross Cooney of Antivirus.ie recommends that ISP's delete everything with a spamassassin level over 10.
I was recently told about this effective way of reporting someone trying to probe your online defenses: http://www.MyNetWatchman.com

Interest continues to grow in spite of repeated political disclaimers. There are two new Yahoogroups:
UKeuropreparations is mainly economic and political in focus. To subscribe,
send an email to:
UKeuropreparations-subscribe at yahoogroups dot co dot uk. Website:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UKeuropreparations
UKeuropreparations was set up by John Turner of Solving aem Ltd. Colin Stringer of Parascosa Consulting recently posted to it a six-page newsletter entitled "EMUlsion - Coat no.1". It includes a summary of UK events in 2002 to show that "the runes are difficult to read" about UK entry. By the way, here's a challenge (for those who have not yet been told by Colin) on the name "Parascosa" - what is the connection between that name and Colin Stringer? Hint: try Google.
Yet another source is Neil Shuttleworth's site:
http://www.europartnership.com/news/
The Euro-EU group provides a home for the members of the Euro2002 discussion
forum lately hosted at Tenagra.com. Cliff Kurtzman provided a great service to
us all over the last few years and I have set up this group for those members
who wish to stay in contact. To subscribe, send an email to:
euro-eu-subscribe at yahoogroups dot com. Website:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Euro-EU
For a daily news clipping service, subscribe to the Euro Information Network
(EIN) by sending to:
Euro-in-subscribe at yahoogroups dot com. This is not a discussion group, just a
news distribution list.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Euro-in
An example item is: "Euro tests are just political says key Blair ally"
http://www.newsnow.co.uk/cgi/NGoto/20179630?-2645 BBC
Naturally, the focus now is on the UK, Sweden, and Denmark. Sweden will hold a referendum on Sept. 14, 2003. Here is a link to a comprehensive and continuously updated listing of opinion polls in Sweden on the euro issue: http://www.temo.se/dok/proj/EMU/EMUsamtliga.htm
The November 2002 Bank of England’s “Practical Issues arising from the euro” is available at http://www.bankofengland.co.uk . This is essential reading for all making their preparations and contingency plans for UK entry.
Presentations from the CIPFA Euro Forums Seminars July 2002
Event presentations and a write-up are now available from the July 2002 Euro
Forum seminars (Subscriber Access Only).
http://www.ipf.co.uk/europe/euroforum/writeup/july2002.htm
http://www.newsnow.co.uk/cgi/NGoto/18448790?-2645 This BBC quiz asks "Which of the following pieces of legendary 'Euro legislation' is actually true?"

On the yahoo E-Commerce Security list
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/e-com-sec
there was an announcement about a new group focused on Operational Risk
Management (ORM) and of interest to those of you who are working in "regulated"
industries such as Financial Services. They are planning to take a very broad
view of ORM based on the demands of the Basel II committee. To join, send an
email to :
B2-ORM-subscribe at yahoogroups dot com
Topics to be discussed include:
Business Continuity Management (new International Standard)
The role of Information Security, Audit and Compliance
Interfaces with Outsource and other service providers.
Six Sigma errors and defects management
Money Laundering and Fraud Risk
Interfaces to Credit and Market Risk
